Car with trailer: what category of rights?
Which category of rights is needed to manage the car with a trailer? Whether the category “B”? When do I need to get subcategory “E”? In order to correctly answer the questions and don’t be confused, you must first understand the terminology.
Let’s start with the car:
The weight of the vehicle without load — your own empty weight of the car.
Curb weight of the car — the weight of a fully fueled car, including the necessary parts, but excluding the weight of transported cargo, driver and passengers.
The maximum permissible weight of the vehicle — kerb weight + weight of cargo, driver and passengers.
The necessary information you will find by looking at the registration certificate of your car.
With trailers the situation is similar:
The carrying capacity of the trailer — is the mass of the cargo, for the transportation of the trailer.
Curb weight of the trailer — his own weight, including the necessary accessories excluding parts and cargo.
Full trailer weight (maximum authorised mass) — it’s curb weight + payload.
Relative to the total mass of the trailers are divided into the following categories:
O1 — automobile trailers with total weight up to 750 kg (inclusive)
O2 — trailers with a gross weight exceeding 750 kg and up to 3,500 kg (inclusive)
O3 — up to 10 000 kg (inclusive)
O4 — more than 10 000 kg
Now for the answer to the question.
Let’s start with the lightest trailers of category O1 (up to 750 kg) . Because the total combination weight (car + trailer) in this case does not matter, the driver is enough to have a category of rights “B”. The same rule applies to other categories — «C”, “C1”, “D”, “D1″.
A trailer with total weight up to 750 kg ” subcategory “E” is not needed.
For driving with a trailer with gross weight up to 3500 kg (O2) . for all the above categories of rights required subcategory “E”. But there is a small exception.
Category of rights “In” gives the right to drive a vehicle or trailer with a maximum mass not exceeding 3500 kg. Therefore, if the sum of the maximum mass of the vehicle and the total mass of the trailer is not above 3500 kg, enough rights categories «» provided that the gross weight of the trailer does not exceed the weight of the car without load. The latter also applies to the category “C1” and “D1”.
Total weight of trailer ≥ 3500 kg = VE, CE, DE
(Maximum weight of car + (total weight of trailer ≤ vehicle weight without load)) ≤ 3500 kg =
The weight of the vehicle without load ≥ full trailer weight ≥ 3500 kg = C1E, D1Е
Finally the trailers of categories O3 and O4 . Their total mass more than 3500 kg and the category “In” in principle not be entitled to control such heavyweights. For all other categories of rights ” subcategory “E” is required. Note that for categories C1E and D1Е, the total mass of the composition should not exceed 12 000 kg, and the total mass of the trailer must not be greater than the mass of the vehicle without load.
Total weight of trailer > 3500 kg = CE, DE
(Maximum weight of car + (total weight of trailer ≤ vehicle weight without load)) ≤ 12 000 kg = C1E, D1Е
Finally, another important condition. When choosing a trailer, remember — the gross weight of the trailer must not exceed the towing characteristics of the vehicle installed by the manufacturer.
